Gift of Appreciation
Who doesn’t love appreciation? Just a simple thank you can make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. My best moments of appreciation from others is when I do something I consider little and then I get thanked because it meant so much to the person. The feeling reminds me to say thanks and also do the same over and over again.
Similarly, people feel hurt when they feel unappreciated, a very depressing feeling. It is also common to appreciate close friends less, as the saying, “familiarity breeds contempt”. It is almost as if we mistake privileges for rights, when the reality is that no-one is entitled to anything. Even when we are, rightfully, it could be taken away from us. With this sad reality in focus, we should learn to notice the little things and the extra effort the people around us make to accommodate us in their lives.
“Appreciation is a wonderful thing. It makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well.”
Simply put, it is one of the few positive feedback we have in real life. The more you give, the more you get.
Merry Christmas to you all. May the joy of this never leave your hearts.
